New Role for CanKor Brain Trust Member Victor Hsu

CanKor Brain Trust member Victor Hsu, visiting Professor at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management in Seoul, has been appointed as Consultant on International Affairs for the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK). The NCCK is preparing the upcoming World Council of Churches (WCC) 10th Assembly which will take place in Pusan, RO Korea, in October 2013. Rev. Kim Young Ju, NCCK General Secretary stated that Prof. Hsu was invited to serve in this role because of his extensive experience in international affairs and special knowledge and expertise about the Korean peninsula. It is hoped that the (North) Korean Christians Federation (KCF) will be able to send delegates to the WCC General Assembly in Pusan. Although the KCF has attended several previous WCC events, this would be the first time a North Korean Christian delegation has participated in an event in South Korea. With a trusted relationship to the KCF that spans 25 years on behalf of several organizations, Prof. Hsu is well placed to guide the NCCK and the WCC in this endeavour. 한국기독교교회협의회(NCCK)는 정의·평화 컨설턴트로 빅터 슈 한국개발연구원(KDI) 국제정책대학원대학교 객원교수를 선임했다고 8일 밝혔다.

슈 교수는 대만에서 태어나 아프리카에서 자랐으며, 미국 뉴욕 유니언신학교를 나왔다.

그는 1976년부터 1987년까지 세계교회협의회(WCC)의 유엔프로그램을 지도했으며, 국제월드비전에서 북한프로그램 국장을 맡아 인도주의적 지원활동을 펼쳤다.

슈 교수는 앞으로 NCCK의 한반도 평화통일을 위한 이슈들과 정의·평화에 관한 일들에 대해 조언하면서 해외교회 및 국제기구와 연대 등 다양한 활동을 펼치게 된다.
