United Church of Canada writes letter to PM in support of ROK Churches

Last November, when Canada announced it was instituting a policy of “controlled engagement” with the DPRK as well as new economic sanctions, the United Church of Canada (UCC), jointly with the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) and the Presbyterian Church in Korea (PCRK) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Harper stating their concerns.

They called on the Canadian government to “play a positive role in transforming the political tension in the Korean peninsula into an opportunity to build peace for the wellbeing of the Korean people,” by “promoting a diplomatic solution to this crisis through negotiation and dialogue to achieve the peace and security that the Korean people deserve.”

Shortly thereafter, the (North) Korean Christian Federation wrote a response which can be found here.
